Auntie Fudge

The Post That Started With Itchy Ears… and Ended With a Mission

Let’s be honest… our journey into natural treats didn’t start as some grand business plan.

It started with Fudge…

…and a LOT of vet bills.

Fudge, our beautiful Springer (and part-time drama queen), seemed to collect medical issues like we collect dog toys, quickly, unexpectedly, and usually at the worst possible time.

Torn ligament? Tick.

Pyometra? Tick.

Allergies that made her itch like she’d rolled in nettles for fun? Oh yes… BIG tick.

At first, we did what every dog parent does, straight to the vets.

Then back to the vets.

Then… back again.

Soon we were basically on first-name terms with the reception team and considering installing a loyalty card system.

But despite the medications, the treatments, and the ever-growing receipts…

Nothing really fixed it.

So we thought…

“Right. If no one else can figure this out, we will.”

(What could possibly go wrong? )

And just like that, we went down the rabbit hole…

Researching

Experimenting

Trying different foods

Accidentally spending a small fortune

We switched things up, introducing natural treats, better ingredients, even raw feeding.

And slowly…

Things started to change

The itching eased.

The flare-ups calmed.

Fudge started to feel more like… well, Fudge again.

And that’s when it hit us,

food isn’t just food… it’s everything.

Now, we wish we could wrap this story up with a perfect happy ending…

But real life doesn’t always work like that.

During what should have been a routine operation, complications took a turn no one expected. Suddenly, we were faced with the hardest decision any pet owner will ever have to make.

The vets were incredible, truly. Time wasn’t on our side, and as we were hours away, the decision had to be made over the phone.

Not how anyone imagines saying goodbye.

But in a way… it spared her the stress.

Instead, Fudge spent her final moments exactly how she loved:

Sitting in the sunshine

Eating a stolen (well… gifted) ham sandwich

Surrounded by kindness

Honestly… if there’s a way to go, that’s not a bad one.

Do we still wish we could have been there?

Of course. Every single day.

But sometimes… what’s hardest for us is what’s kindest for them.

And that’s the part no one prepares you for.

What Fudge left behind wasn’t just memories…

She left a mission.

Because our journey didn’t end with her,

it started because of her.

Now everything we do at Polly’s Natural Nibbles is about helping other dog parents avoid that same cycle:

Endless vet visits

Trial-and-error feeding

Feeling helpless when nothing works

We’ve learned that so many issues, itchy ears, upset tummies, restless behaviour, can be linked back to what’s in the bowl.

And sometimes, the answer isn’t more medication…

…it’s better, more natural choices.

So if your dog is scratching, struggling, or just not quite themselves,

You’re not alone.

And you’re not stuck.

We’re here to help, guide, and support,

with products that work, knowledge that’s lived (not just learned), and a whole lot of heart behind it.

Because if sharing Fudge’s story helps even one dog live a happier, healthier life…

Then her legacy lives on exactly as it should.
